Third time I've tried this Coen Brother's film and I still find it depressing as can be. Maybe that was their objective? As good as Oscar Issac is in this picture, the story is just too sad to be anything but disheartening.

The Coen Brothers' ode to the early '60s folkie scene in NYC focuses on misanthropic singer Davis (Isaac in a fine turn) whose knack for pissing off those he encounters runs neck-and-neck with his musical talents while keeping stardom (and…

This is a beautiful, soulful film, anchored by a beautiful, soulful performance by Oscar Isaac. It manages to strike an improbably balance between the typically-skewed Coen brothers worldview and a grounded, sympathetic, humane portrayal…
Many reviewers missed entirely that Llewellyn is living among those who made it big in the 50s and 50s, but fails over and over again (as did Dave Guard of the original 'Kingston Trio') to grab an opportunity that requires a little…

The hero of the story wasn't anybody I wanted to watch for any period of time; then the east coast in the winter in the 60's - BLAH! that's why I moved here

At once one the Coens' most accessible and most complex, layered films. The songs are more than mere decorations amidst the gauzy photography, they are windows into Llewyn's soul. The plot is a kind of Odyssey - that is, a 'homecoming' -…

I was a child in the sixties when folk music was as popular as rap is currently...and both styles make me ill. This brilliant period piece is highly entertaining as it explores the full gamut of the human condition/ experience. Yes, it is…

One of my all-time favorite movies, without a doubt. I wish I could give it more stars. I have always been a fan of the Coen Brothers, but this film is different from their usual dark offerings. It has its dark side, but it's internal…

Not a fast-paced movie, but I loved the music and enjoyed the story. I think it helps to be old enough to have some memories of the 60's and the music of the day. Folk music was soooo BIG, it was what everyone listened to, "where it was…
Good stuff if you like /wanna know more about pre-Dylan NYC /US folk scene. T Bone Burnett's (American music producer) influence is ALL OVER. Special feature on T Bone, Coen Bros, Justin Timberlake (!) jammin' + MANY more insanely GREAT…

Inside Llewyn Davis is an allegorical tribute to the Folk music revival during the early '60's from New York City's Greenwich Village. Its protagonist, Llewyn Davis, a homage to pioneer, Dave Van Ronk, and other Folk touchstones are…

This is an odd-ball drama by the Coen brothers, about a struggling folk singer in NYC in the 60's. Some will find it boring, but it helps if you happen to enjoy folksy type of music. There are also some interesting characters, in very…

I liked the color palette in this movie and not much of anything else.
It is more exciting to watch the grass grow than this movie. There is no point to it, no conclusion. Boring.

Bob Dylan-esque. Great soundtrack to a road trip/coming-of-age folk music story, complete with a cat. Also, Oscar Isaac is just the cherry on top of a fantastic cast.

The Coen brothers recreate Greenwich Village circa 1960s in this gritty, slightly askew, movie about a folk singer trying to revive his career while camping out on other people's couches and bumming what money he can. Armed only with his…
