The premise of this novel is that 3 of the main characters from the first novel - Ben Holiday, the nymph/sylph/tree sprite/faerie creature Willow, and the Wizard Questor Thews - are the recipients of simultaneous "prophetic" dreams. Which, in true TB hero style, of course means that they all have to go charging off into danger with little or no forethought. Naturally this leads to unnecessary and mostly unbelievable complications for all. Given how ham-handed Holiday is about everything he does, one has to wonder why the entire kingdom of Landover hasn't long ago dissolved into chaos. In fact, given their propensity for impulsive action in dangerous situations (impulsive actions which, in fact, CREATE dangerous situations), it's a miracle that any of his protagonists survived childhood!
