The epic formula of the hidden noble/peasant youth suddenly being taken upon a quest/adventure that takes him/her into grave danger, battling monsters and magic. Only this time it is the classic quest/adventure times four. Once I read this one I just had to read the rest to find out what happens next.

Lord of the Isles is the beginning of what promises to be an excellent high fantasy series. I have now devoured the next eight books. While the series dragged along a little in the middle, it was definitely worth it.
