"YOU CAN'T GIVE HORSE TRANQULISERS TO A MIDGET!!"
or ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME; "TWO MANKY HOOKERS AND A RACIST DWARF."
"It looks like Christmas-town..." and what a fine last stop for a hitman who missed; Colin Farrell, working for Ralph Fiennes, in the company of Brendon Gleason... THIS is the Christmas movie you will miss because friends & family have no [expletive] sense of humour (yeah, it's British, required by law.)
Forget the dramas, this is an absolute gem of blue humour (again, Brit,) and still holds a little human spark. You don't have to watch it, it's survived so far without some mad rush of late comer seal of approval... I saw it in the theatre, I own the disc, and I hounded the system to add it to the catalogue when I saw it was "lost"... If you don't get it...
"Americans, yeah."

It's like Waiting for Godot with hitmen. Dark. Brutal. And above all hilarioius.

Horrible. How can anyone thin Colin Farrel can be funny, this guy is so bad he can read a funny joke/line and it comes out terrible. Just a total waste of time and money, Ug.

I decided to watch this movie because it takes places in beautiful Bruges, Belgium. Nice views of the canals, the colourful city, and the famous attractions. The story is about 2 hitmen who have been sent to Bruges. I found this movie to be quiet strange, a little slow, and at times I wasn't sure what was going on...

Hilarious McDonagh is brilliant.

For someone like me who loves quiet period drama, this movie about hired killers was a stretch. The brutality in the film is difficult to watch, but brief bursts of hilarity and vignettes that perfectly depict deep human emotion make it absolutely worth it. I can see why this won the 2009 BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay, and earned Colin Farrell a Golden Globe best actor award.

After seeing Martin McDonagh's schlock masterpiece, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Mo." and hating it immensely, I came upon his first attempt, "In Bruges". Could this one be as bad as TBOEM? Wrong! It's much, much worse. If you can imagine a Dean Martin / Jerry Lewis crime caper (only slightly) updated for the new Millenium, with Colin Farrell playing the Lewis character, you would be pretty close. On top of that, all the characters spout sub-moronic Catholicism. This would have to be my choice for the worst film of the 21st century (so far.)

A dark comedy about two hit men -- one interested, and one uninterested in enjoying a sudden trip to Belgium -- that provokes interesting responses. (See comments below. No, it's not at all about a race war. And the relatively little violence is not excessive, just realistic -- something film goers may not be familiar with.) It is on the art house side, but most people will be swept away by the dialogue, the acting, the outrageous humour, and the surprisingly tense climax. This film magnified my crush on Brendan Gleeson, and even made me start to take Colin Farrell seriously.

Ray: "Why didn't you wave hello to me today when I waved hello to you today?" Jimmy: "I was on a very strong horse tranquilizer today... Wasn't waving hello to anybody. Except... maybe to a horse." Ray: "Huh? What are you talking about?" Jimmy: "Just horsesh*t." Ray: "You from America?" Jimmy: "Yeah. Don't hold it against me." Ray: "Well, that's for me to decide, isn't it? You from America too?" Denise: "No, I'm from Amsterdam." Ray: "Amsterdam! Amsterdam's just a lot of bloody prostitutes, isn't it?" Denise: "Yes, that's why I came to Bruges. I thought I'd get a better price for my p*ssy here." Ray: "Hey? ...You two are weird. Would you like some cocaine?"

Ken: Your girlfriend's very pretty.
Jimmy: She's ain't my girlfriend. She's a prostitute I just picked up.
Ken: I was not aware that there were any prostitutes in Bruges.
Jimmy: You just have to look in the right places... brothels are good.
Ken: Well, you've picked up a very pretty prostitute.
Jimmy: Thank you.

Ken: Coming up?
Ray: What's up there?
Ken: The view.
Ray: The view of what? The view of down here? I can see that down here.
Ken: Ray, you are about the worst tourist in the whole world.
Ray: Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.

[first lines]
Ray: After I killed him, I dropped the gun in the Thames, washed the residue off me hands in the bathroom of a Burger King, and walked home to await instructions. Shortly thereafter the instructions came through - "Get the f**k out of London, you dumb f**ks. Get to Bruges." I didn't even know where Bruges f**king was.
[pause]
Ray: It's in Belgium.
