Kelly McGregor's life along the Lehigh Canal has nothing in common with the beauty that surrounds her. Forced to help her family survive by driving her father's mules as they pull boatloads of coal to the city, she dreams of saving enough money so that she can escape the drudgery of home and be an artist, sharing the beauty of the world with others.
When a shopkeeper along the canal gives Kelly an outlet for her drawings, she wonders if she may be starting to realize her dreams. But as she gets to know Mike and learns about the God he worships, she begins to understand that life may offer even more than she'd ever dared to hope for. Will Kelly seize her chance for love - or will she let fear drive her away?
