For the audio book, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the author managed the reading. It goes without saying that he knew where the emphasis and inflections need to be placed. However, the author had to deal with various accents and voices - all of which to my untrained ear were carried off magnificently. The author definitely treats some of the characters (Tobey, Emily, and to some extent Sir Christopher) quite sympathetically - so much so that it appears as if the author is walking besides them.

A DELICATE TRUTH is not only an example of John LeCarre's best writing, as read by him, it is one of the best audio book presentations I have ever heard. The nuance of his writing is captured by his voice, in case a reader might missing the inflections on the page. The the multi-leveled characterizations, reflecting the history of all parts of Great Britain in the midst of global politics, where corporations have been encroaching on whatever worthy traits of governments and their representatives have developed over the years, makes our sense of loss more palpable than it ever would be were the events of this book delivered by the news media. Ultimately, it is a love story, one that brings people together who share a love of country and the possibility of honor as circumstances throw them into crisis. A brilliant novel!

I found it very hard to follow and it didn't seem to have an ending. I only kept going opening it would all come together. Sorry I wasted my time on it.

Love the book - surprised because I'd read several bad reviews. Wonder how the author keeps up to date so well with current events. One of his 'examples' of US/Britain intelligence activities is now in the news (island = Diego Garcia).
