Macbeth is the classic tale about the struggle between good and evil. The play follows a man as he struggles with his need for power, his lack of direction, and his overwhelming guilt. While the story itself is an old one, this particular tale is timeless, and still has many elements and themes that are relevant to today’s society. The author manages to portray the main character in a comprehensive and interesting way. Considering that Macbeth is a play, this story is full of drama and intrigue that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat, right until the end. Overall, this is a very good piece of literature, with many classical elements. @avidreader16 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library The Play (book) “Macbeth” is classic example of a 5 part Shakespearean play. It was written during difficult times in England during the Elizabethan era with corrupt leadership. so it is pretty evident on where Shakespeare was getting his inspiration on writing a tragic flawed play with a king. The play is written during the 1500s so the wording is very different from today, making it hard to understand but I could understand the main ideas of large sections and doing poor research on each chapter since my class was reading the play. Macbeth’s selfishness and thirst for power is the reason for his tragic flaw when he realizes he could become king. Macbeth decides to kill the king so he can become king. Once he kills the prior king, he is in the situation to deep and does anything including killing his best friend Banquo to maintain his role as king. However, the spirts of who he has killed come back to torment him which leads him and his wife to insanity. Macbeth is eventually killed by Macduff who becomes a true and loyal king of Norway. Overall it is average book to read to choose from when analyzing Shakespearean and Elizabethan literature and good for novel studies classes. 6.5/10 @Sportsreader03 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Macbeth by Shakespeare was a fairly good play. I actually enjoyed reading and analyzing this play in class because there was a lot more substance to it if you read between the lines. This play is about the main character (Macbeth) and his struggles of adjusting to his new position of king. Macbeth was once a brave and heroic fighter for King Duncan, but he soon betrays the king by killing him for his throne! Macbeth’s fatal flaw of overambition is particularly hard to read because you get to see how a loveable and brave character becomes consumed in guilt and becomes a tyrant. I would recommend this play to others. Rating: 4/5 @Montgomery of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
